Umbrella Scarcity

Weather has been issued as emotional amplifier. A highly reliable condition in which rain removes social polish, wet hair unlocks honesty DLC, and umbrella scarcity functions as the national sport of permitted confession.

Why it works (and why meteorologists have been briefed)

Rain forces proximity, ruins careful appearances, and shrinks the world to two people plus weather. It works as atmosphere and excuse. It becomes syndrome when clear skies are narratively suspicious and every meaningful conversation develops a sudden precipitation requirement. Public downpours create semi-private pockets. Private storms eliminate remaining witnesses. True motives may already have been ready; the protocol simply withholds them until the characters are sufficiently damp. Intrigue and danger can wait under the same awning.

Situations it is used in

• Public dampening: streets and gates where shared shelter is witnessed from a distance
• Private dampening: empty courtyards and paths where the storm is the only audience
• Intrigue paused for hydration and honesty
• Disguise ruined by water on schedule
• Favor expressed via umbrella offer or refusal to leave
• Intimidation washed out by mutual exposure
• Assassination of careful pacing performed by the first heavy drops
• Either lead eligible to speak once polish is gone
• The diagnostic interval in which the world shrinks and the speech begins
• Later review in which dry scenes are discovered to have been merely preparatory

Soft clinic

Soft: the world can still shrink to two people and weather. Honesty under rain is not automatically manufactured.

Mirror clinic

Mirror: Umbrella Scarcity Protocol engaged. Polish removal active. Wet-hair honesty DLC installed. Confession window open until precipitation ends.

Regional flavor

• Korea: K: iconic high-transmission strain. Street rain and umbrella negotiations are endemic. Soft clinic still validates the shrunk world. Mirror clinic notes peak visual and emotional efficiency.
• China: C: strong courtyard and costume downpour variant. Protocol functions across historical and modern settings. Soft clinic honors unpolished proximity. Mirror clinic points at reliable weather authorization.
• Japan: J: quieter shared-umbrella strain. Lower declarative volume, still effective. Soft clinic still recognizes the shelter. Mirror clinic observes reduced spectacle does not restore dry restraint.
