The person who only turned the pages is now inside the chapter. The next line can reach them.

Why it works

A reader who falls, is pulled, or is rewritten into the story they were consuming loses the safety of the audience seat. Knowledge becomes dangerous. Spoilers become prophecy or liability. Favorite characters can now see, refuse, or claim the person who once only watched. The device creates instant stakes, a clear information advantage that can turn into a trap, and a reason the fictional world must treat an outsider as part of its own rules.

Soft reading

Soft: they loved the story enough to fall all the way in. The pages still counted once they could bleed on them.

Mirror reading

Mirror: the plot needed someone who already knew the ending. The reader is the walkthrough the story decided to keep.
