Locked Away
Soft · Trope · Locked-away
The door closes. Whatever the room was for, it is now also a record of who stayed inside it.
Why it works
Confinement removes ordinary exit. Leads placed together must share air, information, and consequence. Leads placed apart must act across the barrier. Public knowledge of the lock changes status; private knowledge of it changes loyalty. Intrigue, disguise, favor, intimidation, or assassination can all travel through the same closed door because movement is already restricted. Later review of the locked interval lets small exchanges count as evidence.
Soft reading
Soft: the door was closed, and they still chose what to do with the time. The care was inside the lock.
Mirror reading
Mirror: the plot needed a room no one could leave on schedule. The lock is the container.

- Japan: J: usually quieter and more socially framed. Confinement tends to be shorter, more embarrassing, or tied to household or institutional rules rather than grand imprisonment. Soft still reads the closed interval as meaningful. Mirror notes that the relative restraint already mar…
