Moonlight cut the old estate in half. Yoon-hee stood among black roses, black coat snapping like a banner, the riding crop idle at her side. The household called her heartless. They had never seen the girl who once waited at this gate.
A figure waited in the trees.
“You came back,” she said, voice even.
“I never learned how to stay away.”
She did not lower the crop. She only stepped closer until the wind tangled their shadows.
“Then do not flinch,” she whispered. “Love me harder than rumor. Harder than the name they gave me. If you leave again, do it while I am still proud enough to watch you go.”
The roses held their thorns. The moon, for once, did not look away.
